Reading the newspapers early in the morning can cause severe damage to your mental and physical state. Weirdly, my blood pressure starts to plummet when I read news reports like the one below:

From Daily Times:

PESHAWAR: Political parties in Lower and Upper Dir districts have barred women from contesting local government elections and casting votes, a Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazlur Rehman (JUI-F) leader said on Wednesday.

“Neither will women candidates be allowed to contest local government polls nor will they be allowed to vote,” Fazlullah said of the decision that was “unanimous”. The JUI-F district president said that women were barred due to local traditions. “We have our own traditions and that is why we have barred women from taking part in polls. We will set conditions and violators will be penalised,” Fazlullah said.

What 'local traditions' are you talking about? You created these traditions yourself to subjugate women, in the name of a religion you don't have any clue about, yet like to propogate your own interpretation of it. What do you mean by an unanimous decision? Did each and every political party agree with their choice that women voting in the local body elections is against 'tradition'? Who on earth are you to decide that women can't participate in elections? God? The President? No, you're a fat maulvi who has at least 5 wives, has a fat bank balance and likes to watch X rated movies as soon as night descends.

This kind of stuff takes nation backward. Why doesn't anybody protest this?
I just wish these kind of things don't become popular. :(

seriously. i think we should all live in ignorance, for one, we'll live longer.

Its the same here, picking up the newspaper and reading it results in me wanting to bang my head against the wall into submission.

You know what the worst is? Women in lower and upper dir (one of my best friends is from that area) wouldn't have voted anyway. Why? Because aside from being fairly uneducated, they just haven't been brought up with enough respect or sense of self esteem and independence for them to do something like going and voting.

Its a shame really.
